What have I been up to?

By Marceline | July 29, 2010

Pinwheel Brooch

It’s still busy busy round these parts. Here’s what I’ve been up to:

- I was over in Edinburgh on Saturday for Made in the Shade. It was a good day but far too tiring by myself. Thanks to everyone who came and bought stuff though, and to Auntie M for the most amazing Peanut Butter Chocolate cake. Nom.

- I managed to resist Laura Donald‘s Smash embroidery but did pick up a pretty pinwheel brooch. I’ve been admiring these from afar so it was great to see them all in real life and pick my favourite.

- Since it was the first proper craft fair I’ve done this year, it was interesting to see what was popular on my stall. The big hit was my book heart kits, which was a nice surprise since I’d just finished repackaging them the night before. Which reminds me, I need to make some more and take new photos.

- Since I got home, I’ve mostly been working on a new zine for the Zine Workshop. It’s a zine about zines! And about zinemaking, so there’s lots of tips, a bit of zine history and some stuff about all the zines I’ve made myself. I’ll be putting this in my shop after the workshop in case you can’t make it along.

- I’ve also been redesigning my cards for a new printer so I can order them in bulk. I’m waiting on the first batch and if they turn out good I’ll be doing the rest as well. Which probably means a card clearout soon so I can get rid of the old stock! The new ones have colour prints inside too which is pretty exciting. For me.

- And there are two new badge sets in the works, one of which features a certain set of kawaii animals.By which I mean these animals, now available on bags prints, stickers and more over at Zazzle.

- Speaking of Bunny and Panda, there’s a cute contest going on over at Super Cute Kawaii just now if you fancy winning some kawaii jewellery and accessories from Scrummyland!

- And finally, the launch of my rainboots creeps ever nearer! I’ve now seen professional photos of the actual finished boots, plus some fantastic shots of a model wearing them. It’s all very exciting and I’ll share as soon as I can. The good news for my larger-footed friends is that the boots will be available in sizes from 3.5 – 9 (UK) – hurray!

Phew! I think that’s it for now.

Zine Workshop

You’ll be hearing a lot more about this soon but please clear your diaries for Sunday 8th August when you can spend an afternoon at the lovely Welcome Home shop making zines with me and hellojenuine. I’ll be bringing a good part of my epic zine collection for you to browse through, as will Jen, and we’ll tell you a bit about zines and help you make your own. All for free! More info here, or RSVP on the Facebook event page.

We also have a winner in the sticker giveaway – Emma, who makes really fun popup cards as Kullakita Cards. Look out for an email from me!

Thanks to everyone else who entered – your comments were very helpful. I did look in the local megaTesco for silicon paper but no luck. I will keep my eyes open though and let you know if I get on any better with it. Or if you have some, send me a bit!

Quick Question

By Marceline | July 9, 2010

So, my rainboots are being made as I write and I’ve seen some photos of the actual finished boots! They look pretty awesome. They’ll be available in shops sometime in the next few weeks – I’ll be sure to tell you once it happens.

I’ll be getting some pairs sent over so I wondered if you could help me decide what sizes to get. It’s entirely possible I’ll be giving a pair away as a prize at some point too so it’s in your best interests to make sure I have some in your size!

Just let me know what shoe size you are using the poll below. I’ve taken the sizes from the Plueys website so if yours isn’t listed I don’t think you’ll be able to get a pair that fit you, sorry.

New Stockists: Chicki and The Make Lounge

By Marceline | June 24, 2010

So, I have two new stockists and both really exciting ones! I’ve been a big fan of Chicki for a while now since they sell some awesome kawaii and are in the UK too. They even sponsored a great giveaway on Super Cute Kawaii and have some fab contests on their blog. And now you can buy Cakeify & Friends there and get all your kawaii in one place. Check out all my stuff here.

And my second new stockist is The Make Lounge, who I’ve also been following for a while. They’re based in London and run some brilliant workshops and classes that always look super fun. I really want to go sometime! In the meantime, I’ll make do with knowing my badges and cards are stocked in their little shop. Check out the website for more info on everything they do.

For more details on my stockists and how to become one yourself, see my stockists page.

Bits and Pieces

By Marceline | June 3, 2010

Some things that aren’t getting a whole post, mainly because of #1.

1. I am off to London this weekend for Pulse and hope to return with some cute finds for Super Cute Kawaii and some idea of whether I can do a trade show myself at some point. Also looking forward to seeing my friends Showpony and bedcrumb‘s displays and products. If you’re exhibiting or visiting give me a shout and maybe we can say hello.

2. I’m going to order the Busy Bee organising pads before I go – thanks for the nice comments! I’ll keep the giveaway open until they arrive so please leave any comments you have about your own to-do lists and you might get one of mine for free.

3. As mentioned briefly in my last post, my next trip to Japan is now all booked, hurray! We’re going from October 29th – November 8th which includes 3 days in Osaka, 1 day in Kyoto and 4 days in Tokyo. We’ll also be there for the Design Festa and having been reading Chickengirl‘s posts about the Spring Design Festa I am even more excited about this. Also, since I never had any plan to do a shopping guide, this will be the first time I actually get to use it myself! Hopefully there will be some additions when I get back.

4. And finally, that bike up there? Yep, it’s mine! I’ve been wanting a folding bike for a while since a) I live across a big park from the City Centre, b) I live up 3 flights of stairs and c) I am tiny. My mum found this one for me and it’s pretty much perfect. And in case you were wondering, no, IKEA don’t make bikes. These are branded Raleigh bikes that IKEA gave to staff as gifts one Christmas! Keep an eye on eBay if you want one.

Zazzle Discount!

By Marceline | April 28, 2010

Grr! Bear shirt
Grr! Bear by askingfortrouble

Travel woes aside, there’s a lot to thank that volcano for – check out the awesome Volcano Extravaganza Blowout Sale (nice name) going on at Zazzle just now – you can get 10% off your entire order plus half price standard shipping!

I ordered myself a tote bag last night and it’s already in the post – can’t wait to see how it looks. I really don’t need a tote bag but they look so cute :)

Anyway, if you’ve been eyeing up anything in my store (like my best-selling Grr! Bear tshirt), or indeed anyone else’s Zazzle store, then now’s the time. Just use code EYJAFJALLA10 at checkout before May 1st.

And even if you don’t fancy buying anything, I’d appreciate you rating your favourite products – it helps me decide which ones to get produced in bulk for my own shop, so everyone wins!

Fabric Winners!

By Marceline | April 17, 2010

Vintage Buttons fabrics

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for – the winners of my fabric giveaway. It was really hard picking winners so I’ve ended up with 3 runners-up.

The winner of the fabric is CLARE who asked:
If your designs suddenly came alive and started to wage war against you, how would you defeat them? That’d be an army of cupcakes, suns, bread and others versus and army of one… (Read my answer)

This was a clear winner at the end of things because it was just so bizarre and also funny and I had to really think about my response. I really hope this doesn’t happen in real life – maybe now they know the repercussions, they won’t try anything.

Anyway, congratulations Clare – I’ll be emailing you about your choice of fabric.

The runners-up (who win some cute stationery from my shop) are:

Leslie – who asked Where do you find colors for your fabrics? (my answer). Probably my favourite of the process questions.

Louise – who asked if you used a gashapon machine and a baby panda fell out, would you try and find a new home for it, or would you pocket it? :) (my answer). I can’t stop thinking about this – it’s such a cute idea!

Sarah – who asked How will you cope when Lost has finally finished? (my answer) because it was the first question to make me laugh.

Well done everyone – check your inbox later today so I can get your addresses.

Thanks to everyone who entered – I really enjoyed answering all your questions and I could easily have picked ten winners. I promise we’ll do this again (both the fabric giveaway and the questions). In the meantime, you can ask me a question any time at Formspring. Sadly Formspring is broked and you can only read the first page of answers. If you add this link to Google Reader you can make it show old items.

And all my fabrics are available to buy at Spoonflower :)

Fabric Giveaway!

By Marceline | April 2, 2010

Ooh, I’m very excited about this giveaway. In celebration of all my new fabric designs, I am giving away one yard of any fabric of your choice from my range at Spoonflower. That includes all the designs above!

To enter, just visit my Formspring page and ask me a question about anything – my crafting, design work, freelance life, favourite colour, meaning of life, whatever you want to know. The question I enjoy answering the most will be the winner. That could be because it’s funny, or intriguing or difficult or easy :)

Important! Once you’ve asked your question COME BACK HERE and leave a comment stating what question you asked and which fabric you would choose (you can change your mind if you win). You can enter as many times as you ask questions, just make sure I know which questions are yours.

UPDATE: please don’t leave your email address in the Formspring question – you’ll get picked up by spammers. I’m deleting any questions that include email addresses so ask again if you like.

Depending on how many good questions I get asked, I will probably pick a runner-up who will get some cute stationery from my shop.

You’ve got til midday (BST) on Friday 16th April to enter. Good luck!

The small print

- prize is any of my designs printed on 1 yard of quilting weight cotton plus shipping to wherever you live, worldwide. The winner can also pay me the difference for their own choice of base cloth (see Spoonflower’s available fabrics)

- If the winner is in the UK, it’s possible I will order more fabric for myself at the same time and post yours on to you once it arrives here so as to save on shipping.

- Fabric can be used for personal and commercial projects, though I would appreciate a credit as the designer if you sell something you make.

- I reserve the right to not answer questions I feel are too personal or otherwise problematic for me.

SALE SALE SALE!

By Marceline | December 29, 2009

It’s sale time in the shop so why not grab yourself a bargain? All my Christmas stuff is majorly discounted with cards just 50p each and calendars almost sold out. I’ve also put loads of other stuff on sale that I don’t plan on making any more. If there’s something you like in the sale section, then it’s likely to be your last chance to buy it! There’s also free UK shipping on all orders over £10.

When I return properly in futuristic 2010 I’m going to be streamlining my product range and bringing in some new designs. There’s a whole lot of stuff bubbling around in my head and I need to sit down and plan it all out. You will definitely be the first to know though!

Until then, stay warm and have a Happy New Year!
