Bangkok Shopping Guide

In June this year I was lucky enough to visit Thailand and catch up with one of my best friends Claire (of Miso Funky fame) as she had moved there for a few months. I’d never had any particular wish to go to Thailand but Claire lured me in with her tales of earthquakes, searing heat and endless temples*. No, wait, with tales of SHOPPING! Apparently Bangkok was packed full of markets and shops selling amazing handmade things and all the Japanese kawaii you could handle. So off I went. I was only there for about 8 days but Claire had been doing plenty research in the previous months so we got round a lot, once she managed to drag me away from the delights of the Siam Paragon food mall. And yes, I’m joking about the temples - I visited a few and they were very impressive.

Because of my previous lack of interest in Thailand, this will be in no way as detailed as my Tokyo Shopping Guide but I hope it will still be helpful in finding some great places to shop. As before, I’ll tell you where to find them, what they look like, what they sell, what the prices are like and illustrate them with photos of my purchases.

You can view the whole set of posts in backwards order (i.e. most recent post back to the first post) via the Bangkok Shopping Guide category or you can jump directly to the posts you’re most interested in, using the links below. I’ve only just started so there will be much more on this page soon.

Maps and Guide Books
Everyone says the same - there is only one you need: Nancy Chandler’s amazing illustrated map. It’s incredibly detailed and shows you everything you actually want to know. So get that. I also got Frommer’s Thailand which was great for clueing me in as to what I was letting myself in for.
